Pre-Session

When is the best age for a Cake Smash & Splash session?

Cake Smash & Splash sessions are perfect to celebrate your baby’s first birthday. Most families book close to the big day so the images can be used for keepsakes or invitations, but I also photograph slightly younger or older babies if timing works best for you.

How far in advance should I book?

These milestone sessions are very popular, so it’s best to book 2–4 weeks in advance to secure your preferred date. I’ll always try to accommodate last-minute enquiries if space allows, but early booking is strongly recommended.

Where are Cake Smash sessions held?

All sessions take place in my cosy home studio in Rugby, Warwickshire. The studio is styled for little ones, with a calm atmosphere, space for cake fun, and a warm tub ready for the splash at the end.

What should my baby wear?

I provide a selection of cute outfits and accessories for both the smash and splash parts of the session. You’re welcome to bring something personal too. Outfits that are simple, light-coloured, or themed for the birthday look best and let the baby’s personality shine through.

Can parents and siblings be included?

Yes — family photos are always included in both packages. We’ll capture a mix of baby portraits, cake smash fun, splash-time giggles, and natural family interactions to tell the full story of your little one’s milestone.

During the Session

How long does a Cake Smash & Splash session take?

Sessions last around 2–3 hours for the Treasured Collection and about 2 hours for the Digital Memories package. This allows plenty of time for portraits, the smash, and the splash — all at baby’s pace.

What is your photography style?

My Cake Smash & Splash style is natural, calm and baby-led. I keep props simple, use soft light, and gently guide with prompts so we capture genuine smiles, curiosity, and messy fun without it feeling forced.

What if my baby doesn’t like the cake or water?

Every baby is different! If your little one isn’t keen on the cake, we’ll focus on portraits and family shots. If they don’t enjoy the splash, we’ll capture them playing around the tub instead. The session is always flexible and baby-led.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Just bring nappies, snacks, drinks, and a towel for after the splash. I provide the cake, outfits, props, and warm water. If you’d like to add a personal touch, you can bring a special toy or keepsake.

Can we include outfit changes?

Yes — most families choose one outfit for portraits, another for the cake smash, and then use one of my splash outfits or a simple nappy cover for the tub. This helps create variety in your gallery without overwhelming baby.

After the Session

When will we receive our Cake Smash & Splash images?

Your private online proofing gallery will be ready within 2–3 weeks of your session. This ensures you have plenty of time to select favourites before your baby’s birthday celebrations.

How many photos are included?

The Digital Memories package includes 20 fully edited digitals. The Treasured Collection includes 20 digitals + matching 6x4 prints, the complete first-stage gallery (minimum 100 images), and a 20x20” framed wall art piece.

Can we purchase extra images or prints?

Yes — additional digitals are £15 each, and extra 6x4” prints are £20 each. Families who book the Treasured Collection also receive a framed wall art piece designed from 9 images.

How will our images be delivered?

All images are delivered via a private online gallery where you can view, download, and share your favourites. Prints and wall art are carefully packaged and delivered to your home, ready to display.

Do you keep a backup of our photos?

I keep backups for a limited time, but I always recommend downloading and storing your images securely once delivered, so you have them for the long term.
